1. What events led to the outbreak of war in the DR congo?
The events that led to the outbreak were that the Hutu militias were held responsible for perpetrating the deaths of hundreds and thousands of people who fled across Congo, along with Hutu civilians who feared for their lives. The Tutsi-led Rwandan Patriotic Army who invaded the Kivus , and killed hundreds and thousands of others in process, and at least eight other countries began fighting.
2. How many have died in this war? Over what time frame has the deaths taken place? What countries and ethnic groups are involved
Over hundreds and thousands of people have died over this time period through 1996 to 1998. The Hutu and Tutsi were involved in this fighting period because by a certain period of time, they ran the economy of the Kivus.
3. What do you think can happen to stop the war/genocide in Congo?
I think that if everyone just found a reason why they were fighting, and tried to solve it, no one would even have to start a war. Everyone would have the same thoughts. If that wouldn't work, then the people of Congo should just do the fight and get it over with so they can get on with their lives.
